| August 31, 2010 Gaming Grants Announced For Langley Charities LANGLEY - Twenty-three Langley charities will receive a total of $727,440 in the latest round of provincial gaming grants, announced this week by Mary Polak, Minister of Children and Family Development, and Rich Coleman, Minister of Housing and Social Development. These grants will be used by the charities and non-profit societies to operate important services and expand programs for local residents. The money comes from the proceeds of gaming in British Columbia. “Charities are the lifeblood of our community,” said Polak, who serves as MLA for Langley. “They serve our residents in a variety of ways, and inspire and coordinate thousands of hours of volunteer time and effort. These grants will help them continue their work.” “Residents will recognize several names on this list of charities,” said Coleman, who serves as MLA for Fort Langley-Aldergrove. “They do important work and are valuable, recognized partners in building and enhancing our community.” Local charities that will receive gaming grants this month include: • Order of the Royal Purple #38, $9,000 • Navy League of Canada – Central Fraser Valley Branch, $9,500 • Catholic Women’s League (St. Ann’s), $24,000 • Valley Therapeutic Equestrian Association, $39,000 • Shrine Club #36, $12,500 • Langley Association for Community Living, $40,000 • Walnut Grove Lions, $40,000 • BC Farm Machinery and Agricultural Museum Association, $1,665 • Canadian Animal Rescue & Extended Shelter Society, $43,000 • Alder Grove Heritage Society, $20,000 • Canadian Museum of Flight Association, $18,000 • Langley Ukulele Association, $18,000 • Brookswood Kids’ Place Society, $6,000 • Kiwanis Club of Langley District 100, $9,900 • Rotary Club of Langley, $11,000 • Rotary Club of Langley Central, $15,000 • Soroptimist International of the Langleys, $20,000 • Langley Children’s Society (dba) Langley Child Development Centre, $24,000 • Langley Community Services Society, $42,500 • Stepping Stone Community Services Society, $60,000 • Langley Hospice Society, $75,000 • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley, $91,875 • Langley Senior Resources Society, $97,500 -30- | |
