Mary welcomes students from The King's School in Langley to the British Columbia Legislature. During their visit the students got to eat lunch with Mary and experience a lively Question Period in the House.
Mary joins Tyam Group Executive V.P. Mike Luers, Translink CEO Ian Jarvis, Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender, and Langley MP Mark Warawa at the opening of the Nicomekl Bridge. The new five-lane bridge replaces a 40-year-old two lane structure which was vulnerable to high water during heavy rain.
Mary joins Langley Councillor Mel Kositsky, Township of Langley Mayor Rick Green, Langley RCMP Superintendent Derek Cooke, and Councillor Grant Ward to open the Willoughby Greenway Pedestrian Overpass. The new walkway spans 200th street at 68 Avenue, and will allow those on foot or bicycle to cross the busy corridor high above traffic.
Mary breaks ground at the new House of Hope Centre with Wagner Hills Farm Society Director Helmut Boehm, Township of Langley Mayor Rick Green, Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman, and Wagner Hills Farm founder Wes Wagner. The new centre will increase capacity for House of Hope, a facility which helps women overcome addictions and other issues. The facility is owned and managed by the Wagner Hills Farm Society. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offers farm work and job skills training to help people living with addiction change their lives.

Mary joins in as the City of Langley shows its Spirit and welcomes the world during the Olympic Flame's visit to the community. A large crowd arrived to enjoy local entertainment and celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay at City Hall.
Mary joins Premier Gordon Campbell, Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman and Olympic Torchbearer and Paralympian Lauren Barwick as the Olympic cauldron is lit in Langley. Thousands of residents came out to celebrate the Olympic Torch's arrival to the community.

In recognition of Heart & Stroke Awareness Month, Mary had her blood pressure screened at the Legislature. Mary encourages everyone to stay healthy by regularly checking their blood pressure.
Mary gets her blood glucose and cholesterol levels tested as part of a day of activities that the Canadian Diabetes Association organized in the Legislature on February 11 to increase public awareness. The Canadian Diabetes Association works in communities across the country to promote the health of Canadians and eliminate diabetes through a strong nationwide network of volunteers, employees, healthcare professionals, researchers, partners and supporters.
Mary, who is the provincial government's Sports Minister, joins the Vancouver Giants hockey team and amateur youth hockey players from around the lower mainland to talk about the importance of coaches on "Coach's Day".

Mary Polak with Kimberly Enns and Inspector Richard Konarski presents a $5000.00 cheque to the Willowbrook Community Police Office in support of its Junior Police Camp 2008. The project is to support 100 kids between the ages of 8-12 over a 3 day period where they would be provided with educational tools necessary to develop safety-conscious individuals and build positive relationships between the kids and police. The funding originates from the Safe Streets and Safe Schools fund of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
Mary, along with Kwantlen University College president Skip Triplett and Rich Coleman, MLA for Ft. Langley-Aldergrove, attends an event at the college announcing $336,000 for funding for the Langley campus’ horticulture program.
Mary with Mike de Jong, MLA for Abbotsford-Mt.Lehman and Maranda Rudolph, the Langley girls Peewee C Shark’s goalie and a member of the PuCKS program. PuCKS is a local organization that uses hockey to promote health, education and community strength for children and youth through the nationally-popular game of hockey.
